Specialist forensic expertise

Support your digital investigation with detailed analysis of data stored on mobile devices. With ongoing research programmes into a wide range of devices and applications, we make it our business to stay on top of developments in the industry – enabling us to offer specialist expertise and cutting-edge techniques.

Key evidence source

Mobile devices are playing an increasingly important role in people’s daily lives – whether at work or play. As a result, mobile telephone data can be an important source of evidence in civil or criminal cases.

As well as text, picture, multimedia and e-mail messaging, many mobile telephone handsets enable users to record and play audio, and take and store photographs and video, as well as browse the Internet. They may be used as navigation systems and for many people, these devices are personal organisers, storing important dates, events, address book information, and even Microsoft Office documents.

Highly-skilled team

However, the diversity of handsets available – and the rapid development of new models, operating systems and applications – can pose a major challenge for forensic investigators. Each version can require different tools and analytical techniques.

For this reason, mobile device forensics requires in-depth training, software and hardware, and should only be carried out by specialist forensic investigators.

At QCC, we continue to invest in the latest equipment and techniques. So, you can be confident that our team of highly-skilled and experienced forensic analysts can assist you with your investigation.

In-depth data analysis

As well as offering advanced technical expertise, our highly-skilled forensic team also has extensive investigative experience. This makes us ideally positioned to provide an in-depth and independent analysis of the data available. We proactively examine all types of digital evidence stored on mobile devices and present findings in a clear, jargon-free report suitable for non-technical readers such as jury members.

Wide-ranging experience

We can analyse data from a wide range of handsets, across various networks and operating systems, including the following:

  • Handset manufacturers:
Apple, BlackBerry, HTC, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Panasonic, Sagem, Samsung, Sendo, Sharp, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Vertu
  • Networks:
    T-Mobile, Orange, O2, Virgin, Vodafone, 3
  • Operating systems:
Android, Generic, iOS, Symbian, Windows Mobile

Search and seizure

The forensic process for mobile devices broadly matches other branches of digital forensics. However, some particular concerns apply. One of the main ongoing considerations for analysts is preventing the device from making a network/cellular connection which may bring new data, overwriting evidence. QCC has trained search and seizure personnel to carry out this important part of the process.

Acquisition

Maintaining the integrity of evidence collected is critical for a successful outcome in any mobile device-based forensic investigation. For this reason, our forensic analysts always follow the guidelines set out by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) for dealing with electronic evidence. You can be confident therefore that evidence captured will stand up to legal scrutiny.
